Attain Housing provides family‑centered housing and services to King County residents who are facing a homeless crisis. While meeting their critical needs for housing and services, Attain Housing assists families as they work to transform their lives.
Attain Housing works with families in crisis to stabilize their situation. At the heart of Attain Housing’s Transitional Program is Case Management, a structured program in which participants regularly meet with trained case managers to establish and work toward individualized goals. As families achieve their goals, including gaining employment skills, improving credit, or furthering their education, they interrupt the cycle of homelessness by building the strength to return to self-determination and self‑sufficiency.
Attain Housing refers clients to needed services, homeless prevention resources, and ultimately assists them in securing permanent housing. Attain Housing also partners with a wide range of community programs and agencies to provide participants with every resource possible.
ATTAIN HOUSING RESIDENCES
To qualify for housing through Attain Housing, a family must be homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Families referred through Family Housing Connection (2‑1‑1) meet with Attain Housing Case Managers, who assess the extent of each client’s needs and Attain Housing’s capacity to address those needs. Case Managers also assess applicants’ commitment to working on goals and creating benchmarks that measure achievement of their goals. Case Management is at the heart of Attain Housing’s Transitional Program. Clients participate in a regular program of Case Management and follow through on their individual plans while they are in Attain Housing residences. Each weekly session with a Case Manager focuses on evaluating progress, working on areas of concern, and exploring ways to eliminate barriers to success.
Depending on their circumstances, some participants will pay rent based on income level. Families typically stay in Attain Housing residences 6 to 24 months, with an average stay of 16 months. With the merger of Attain Housing and our partner, Housing at the Crossroads, on January 1, 2013, Attain Housing now owns 32 apartments and contracts with other providers for additional placement opportunities.
Attain Housing’s goal is to move families from transitional housing to secure, permanent housing as quickly as is reasonable. Some families may have the opportunity to transition into Attain Housing’s low-income Supportive Housing if it is available. Case Management is provided on a regular basis; residents also participate in community‑building activities. Eligibility is reassessed on an annual basis. Home ownership through first‑time home buyers’ programs is encouraged for participants ready to achieve this goal.
